ST. Valentine’s Day is celebrated in February 14th as festival of romance and affection. People sent greeting cards called «valentines» to the sweethearts, friends and members of their families. Many valentines have romantic poems, others are humorous. But almost all valentines ask: «Be my Valentine!» This may mean be my friend or be my love or be my companion. Valentines often show a cupid with an arrow. Cupid also called Eros, was an ancient Roman god of love. Valentine’s Day is not a legal holiday; schools and banks are open as usual. Merchants sell valentines and decorations for Valentine’s Day parties and dances. All the decorations are bright red; and most popular ones are heart shaped. Schoolchildren decorate their classrooms with bright red paper hearts and celebrate the day in their classroom. They also make valentines for their friends and parents. Red is the colour most often user in valentines because it is the symbol of warmth and feelings. Sweethearts, friends and members of the family exchange gifts on Valentine’s Day. On Valentine’s Day many radio stations play romantic music all day long. Valentine’s Day is a day to share loving feelings with friends and family.

No one really knows the actual origin of Valentine’s Day. Some experts connect Valentine’s Day with two saints of the early Christian church. According to the story, St. Valentine was a priest who would marry young couples against the orders of the Roman Emperor Claudius II, who believed that single that single young men made better soldiers. This story goes back to about A.D. 200. There was also another Valentine who was a good friend to children. Because he would not worship the gods decreed By Roman emperor, he was put in prison. While he was imprisoned, the children that he befriended missed him and brought him loving notes. Many of the notes expressed the thought that « absence makes the heart grow fonder». He was supposedly executed on February 14^th in A.D. 270.Some people think this is why we exchange friendly messages on this day. Whatever the origin Valentine’s Day is celebrated in many parts of the world today and is a holiday for both young and old.

 Кожному учаснику конкурсу роздають листочки паперу. Їх просять написати на них ім'я одного з учасників конкурсу (протилежної статі). Суть конкурсу в наступному: якщо імена співпадають (наприклад, Сергій написав «Марина», а Марина написала «Сергій»), то вони заробляють очки, якщо немає, то залишаються без)

Кожному учаснику видаються англійські прислів'я та приказки, пов'язані з темою любові і дружби. За кілька хвилин вони повинні написати і прочитати відповідну українською приказку або прислів'я.

Серцю не накажеш. Насильно милим не будеш. Love cannot be forced. 

Любов зла полюбиш і козла.  Love is blind as well as hatred. 

З милим рай і в курені. Love is a cottage. 

Шлюби укладаються на небесах.  Marriages are made in heaven

 Заборонений плід солодкий.  Forbidden fruit is sweet. 

Любов знайде собі дорогу. Love will find a way.

У любові і на війні все дозволено. All is fair in love and war.

I have 2 boxes one for the queen other for king. Each boy should write name of a girl on the paper whom he wants to see the queen of the party  and girl should write name of the boy whom she wants to see the king of the party. I will go the boys and Love to the girls. ( грає музика)
